General Manager Operations Mining & Industrial Services

Build, integrate and grow an established mining services business. Are you a commercially driven operational leader ready to take ownership of a business and shape its next phase of growth?

We are representing an established mining and industrial services organization seeking an experienced General Manager Operations to lead its Workforce and Equipment divisions.

This is a newly created senior leadership position offering the opportunity to bring two business areas together, improve operational and commercial performance, and develop a more specialized maintenance services offering across the resources sector.

This is not simply a role maintaining an established operation. It is an opportunity to build capability, influence strategy and create a stronger, more integrated business.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will take overall responsibility for the operational, commercial and strategic performance of the Workforce and Equipment businesses.
You will work closely with the senior leadership team to establish a more cohesive operating model, strengthen accountability and position the business for sustainable growth.

A key focus will be developing the organization beyond its existing workforce and equipment offering towards a specialist maintenance services model, supporting mining clients across project work, shutdowns and lifecycle maintenance.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Workforce and Equipment divisions under an integrated operating structure.
  • Improve operational performance, utilisation, productivity and profitability.
  • Establish clear accountabilities, reporting frameworks and performance measures.
  • Take ownership of revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, budgets and financial performance.
  • Strengthen planning, scheduling, recruitment and account management coordination.
  • Develop mechanical and electrical maintenance service capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities across project support, shutdowns and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Strengthen senior client relationships and identify opportunities for additional work.
  • Convert existing labour hire relationships into managed packages and maintenance contracts.
  • Lead tendering, pricing, commercial proposals and contract delivery.
  • Develop leadership capability and build a high-performance, safety-focused culture.
  • Position the business to support future growth and expansion.

About you

You will be an experienced operational leader who understands the commercial and operational demands of working within the resources and industrial services sectors.
Ideally, you will bring:

  • Senior leadership experience managing a substantial maintenance, contract services or workforce business.
  • A strong background in mining, resources or mobile maintenance.
  • Experience leading multiple operational functions or business units.
  • Strong commercial and financial management capability.
  • A track record of improving operational performance and profitability.
  • Experience developing client relationships and securing larger commercial opportunities.
  • An understanding of tendering, pricing, contract management and service delivery.
  • The ability to build, lead and develop capable management teams.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to engage with everyone from field-based teams to senior executives.

You will be comfortable balancing strategic direction with practical operational involvement and will enjoy building and improving a business.

Why this role?

  • Senior leadership responsibility across two established business areas.
  • Opportunity to shape and integrate the operating model.
  • Genuine scope to build a specialist mining maintenance services business.
  • Commercial ownership and influence over business performance.
  • Opportunity to develop existing client relationships into larger contracts.
  • Exposure to the strategic growth ambitions of an established organization.
  • Potential for future career progression as the business expands.
